Course Overview
The BSc (Hons) Psychiatric Nursing prepares students to provide specialist care for individuals experiencing mental health conditions across a range of healthcare settings. Students explore psychology, psychiatric nursing, therapeutic communication, mental health assessment, recovery-focused practice, and evidence-based interventions while undertaking supervised clinical placements.
The programme develops empathy, resilience, and professional competence in supporting individuals with diverse mental health needs. Students strengthen clinical judgement and collaborative skills within multidisciplinary healthcare teams. Graduates are prepared for careers in psychiatric hospitals, community mental health services, rehabilitation centres, and specialist mental healthcare.
Entry Requirements
- Completion of 10 + 2 with a minimum aggregate of 65% including Biology/Science and English (Subject to NMBI registration approval).
- IELTS 7.0 (with no band less than 6.5 or NMBI equivalent), TOEFL iBT 94, or OET standards.
- Garda Vetting clearance, health & safety assessment, and mental health care aptitude screening.
- Certified 10 + 2 transcripts, detailed statement of purpose, and recommendation letters from academic referees.
- NMBI applicant verification and formal nursing panel interview.
