About University of the Philippines Manila College of Medicine

The University of the Philippines Manila (UP Manila) College of Medicine, is the oldest state-funded medical school in the Philippines and is widely regarded as the country’s premier institution for medical education, biomedical research, and healthcare leadership. As the flagship medical college of the University of the Philippines System, it has produced generations of distinguished physicians, scientists, public health experts, medical educators, and government health officials. The Doctor of Medicine curriculum follows an innovative competency-based framework that integrates biomedical sciences, clinical medicine, research, ethics, health policy, and community-oriented medical education. Students receive extensive clinical training at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH), the nation’s largest government tertiary referral and teaching hospital, where they encounter a highly diverse patient population and complex medical cases across every specialty.

The college is internationally recognized for its strong research programs in infectious diseases, genomics, cancer, public health, tropical medicine, and health systems development. Community immersion, particularly through the Regionalization Program and community health initiatives, prepares graduates to address healthcare disparities throughout the Philippines. With its strong academic reputation, global collaborations, and commitment to social accountability, UP Manila remains the benchmark for medical education in the country and consistently produces physicians who become leaders in clinical practice, research, academia, and national healthcare policy.
