The Bachelor of Midwifery at the University of Waikato prepares students to provide comprehensive maternity care throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and the postnatal period. The programme combines academic study with extensive clinical placements in hospitals, birthing centres, and community settings.
Students develop expertise in maternal and newborn health, antenatal care, labour and birth management, postnatal support, breastfeeding, and culturally safe maternity practice. Emphasis is placed on evidence-based care, women’s health, and continuity of care. Graduates are eligible to seek registration as midwives in New Zealand and pursue careers across maternity healthcare services.
