Course Overview
The Bachelor of Applied Science (Laboratory Science) (Level 7) at UCOL prepares students for professional laboratory careers through intensive practical training and scientific study. The programme covers analytical chemistry, microbiology, molecular biology, laboratory quality systems, instrumentation, biochemistry, and scientific data analysis.
Students gain extensive hands-on experience using modern laboratory equipment while following industry-standard health, safety, and quality assurance procedures. Work-integrated learning and laboratory projects develop technical competence and problem-solving abilities. Graduates are prepared for laboratory positions in healthcare, environmental testing, food industries, biotechnology, research organisations, and scientific diagnostic laboratories.
Entry Requirements
- Recognized 10+2 qualification (or equivalent) with at least two academic subjects scoring 60% or above
- Background in at least two Science subjects
- Official academic transcripts
- IELTS 6.0 (minimum 5.5 in each band) or equivalent
- NCEA equivalency required for applicants under 20 years of age (UCOL)
