Course Overview
The Bachelor of Midwifery at Victoria University of Wellington prepares students to provide safe, evidence-based maternity care throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and the postnatal period. The programme covers maternal and newborn health, reproductive health, pregnancy assessment, labour and birth, neonatal care, pharmacology, professional ethics, and culturally responsive practice.
Extensive clinical placements allow students to develop practical midwifery skills under professional supervision. Graduates meet the educational requirements for registration as midwives in New Zealand and pursue careers across hospital and community maternity services.
Entry Requirements
- University Entrance or alternative admission type, and to meet the entry standards of the Midwifery Council of New Zealand
- Secondary school subjects including Biology (required) and Chemistry/Physics (required)
- English language proficiency meeting Nursing Council and Midwifery Council standards (IELTS 7.0 equivalent)
- Satisfactory completion of health screening, safety checks, and police vetting
- Admission interview and safety screening to assess suitability for midwifery practice
