Course Overview
The Bachelor of Education (Teaching) Early Childhood at Victoria University of Wellington prepares students to become qualified early childhood teachers through the study of child development, curriculum design, inclusive education, assessment, bicultural practice, family partnerships, and professional teaching practice.
Students complete supervised practicum placements in early childhood education settings where they apply educational theory to real teaching environments. The programme develops reflective, culturally responsive educators who support children’s learning and wellbeing. Graduates are eligible to pursue teacher registration and careers across New Zealand’s early childhood education sector.
Entry Requirements
- University Entrance (UE) standard or recognized equivalent senior high school qualification
- Achievement of required NCEA literacy and numeracy credits or equivalent framework
- Advanced English proficiency standards meeting Teaching Council criteria (IELTS 7.0 overall with no sub-score below 7.0)
- Submission of academic records, certified passport copies, and application documentation
- Selection meeting, literacy/numeracy testing, interview, and police vetting clearances
