Course Overview
The Bachelor of Viticulture and Winemaking (Level 7) at NMIT provides comprehensive education across grape production and commercial winemaking. Students study vineyard management, grapevine physiology, wine chemistry, microbiology, viticulture, wine production, quality assurance, sustainability, and wine business operations.
Extensive practical training takes place in vineyards, wineries, and laboratories using industry-standard equipment. The programme prepares graduates with technical and scientific expertise for careers in vineyard management, winemaking, wine production, quality control, wine research, and international wine industries.
Entry Requirements
- Achievement of NCEA Level 3 (60 credits at Level 3 or higher and 20 credits at Level 2 or higher) including 14 credits in 3 approved subjects
- Literacy: 10 credits at Level 2 or above (5 in reading, 5 in writing); Numeracy: 10 credits at Level 1 or above
- English language proficiency via IELTS Academic 6.0 overall (no band under 5.5)
- Alternative admission pathways via related Level 4 qualifications or NZQA-recognized equivalent overseas certificates
- Distance learners must possess employment or access to a suitable wine industry workplace and attend workshops
