Course Overview
The Master of Urban Design at the University of Auckland focuses on creating sustainable, functional, and people-centred urban spaces. Students study urban design theory, placemaking, sustainable neighbourhoods, public spaces, transport integration, landscape design, and urban regeneration.
Studio-based learning, collaborative design projects, and professional engagement enable students to develop innovative solutions for contemporary urban challenges. The programme strengthens creative, technical, and strategic planning capabilities. Graduates pursue careers in urban design consultancies, architecture firms, local councils, planning agencies, property development, and city revitalisation projects.
Entry Requirements
- Professional degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning, or related spatial discipline
- Minimum GPA of 4.0 or higher in qualifying prior undergraduate or professional degrees
- Submission of a comprehensive design portfolio showcasing spatial planning projects
- English language proficiency via IELTS 6.5 overall or equivalent test scores
- Academic transcripts, CV, and a targeted letter of intent outlining design philosophy
